RESCHEDULE?

We're thinking of rescheduling this week's meeting, but we need input about availability!!

I'm available any weekday other than Tuesday or Friday after 2.

Please let us know what times you'd be available so we can figure something out :).

Alternatively: I'm not sure the discussion thing is going to work, but this week might be a good week to try it out (if we can't arrange a time) and get EVERYBODY to say something in the discussion I just posted. If this works, then in the future we'll have a usable way of making due if/when people can't make it (nobody wants me to start talking to myself on the boards, I can assure you! Don't think I wouldn't!).

Thoughts? Availabilities?

If anyone has adjustments to meeting time/location/pagecount-per-week/whatever that would make it easier for them to participate, just let me know and we can try to make it work out better for everyone!

Discussion 9.28

First discussion post (attempt)!
(please respond, especially if you can't make it to the meeting but are doing the reading! don't make George cry!!)...

I'm not sure I'm qualified to ask discussion questions but here goes (you can pick whichever one(s) interest you most to answer):
  1. What are your initial impressions of the characters? Is there one you relate to most, or who stands out to you for some other reason?
  2. What's your favorite James O. Incandenza film concept? Why?
  3. What's in this book for you? What's the lens through which you're reading it? (For example, for me it's depression/mental illness, for Nick it's addiction, for Patricia it's the Kierkegaardian themes... etc*).
  4. Is there any part/aspect of the book that's giving you trouble? Is it hard to read? Do you like the footnotes? What, if anything, are you struggling with?
  5. What's your favorite scene, from what you've read so far, and why?

*  I'm failing to mention Conrad here not because he doesn't have an interesting perspective to bring to the table (he does), but because he has such diverse interests that his lens can't really be pinned down like those mentioned can.**

**  Also, look at me using footnotes, what fun!

ONE LAST NOTE:
on the sidebar of the blog, there's a box that says "Follow by Email" above it. If the blog/discussion thing is going to work, people should probably put their emails in here so that you get notified when stuff is happening on there - so PLEASE DO THIS! (Think of poor George!!)!!

MEETING TIME IS SET TO  12pm ON SUNDAYS  AT THE  Nostalgia Cafe  ON  100 S & 248 E

A poll on the left wants to know if this works for everyone. Its name is George. Please let George know what's going on. He gets so lonely and confused.
Quick update!

The schedule's updated, but people should look it over (my math is terrible so you may catch a problem) - but notice that our final meeting is scheduled for December 21st. I'm not sure if this will be a problem, so we can adjust if it is - I just thought it would be worth taking the extra week to keep the page count reasonable.

Also, the final week is a bit lighter than the rest of them (since, like, finals and stuff) - but if people don't agree that this is a good idea, adjustments can be made!

Finally : does Sunday at noon work for everyone? Perhaps I'll start a poll and see if this one is more effective? :)

Happy reading!! Here's hoping we make it to page 67!

Update : the schedule is no longer panic-worthy, so... hold your horses...

[Sidenote: I hope you all aren't finding me tremendously annoying yet - I really don't know why I'm this way. I suspect that something went terribly wrong when I was a fetus.]

If you look at the schedule and think, "PANIC!" - don't worry. I realize that you're not going to read 63 pages today. I just have to adjust everything forward a bit, I think...

I'm going to set up a poll (mostly just for fun) to see what the general feelings are about the whole blog thing... :)
